Perhaps it is too hard now that this is also a jobs scheme for “prohibition police” and other vested interests. The objective evidence for use of codeine-based cough syrups is also for extremely limited cases. The scale of production of these products in India (which include some global MNC pharma - who don’t make these products in their home countries or in other developed countries) in relation to the actual medical need for these products, also makes one question their ethics.
The point about rate-sensitive liabilities is the most important one here. FCNR(B) deposits address the liquidity problem, not the confidence problem. Until the pull factors on FDI are rebuilt, every dollar that comes in on incentive can leave just as fast
