I am wondering if Gandhi’s being disqualified from standing in the election isn’t something of a blessing in disguise. It always struck me as odd that a party that is widely seen as having at the core of its electoral struggles a problem with elitism and an out of touch and increasingly unresponsive party leadership was placing its future once again in the hands of the same guy who led his party to defeat in past elections and the very symbol of that off-putting elitism. Doesn’t this perhaps give an opportunity for a new face to emerge as the standard bearer for the opposition? Someone, moreover, who is better at politics than Gandhi has proven himself to be?
