Regarding medical education: Overly regulated framework may deter setting up of required medical colleges, But if you have no regulation don't be surprised that we are capable of setting up a fake Medical college in 3BHK apartment! Further, more surprisingly, there will be parents waiting with cash to get admissions in to these colleges.

Not having regulation or having diluted regulation is no solution . What is required is a demand for good medical education from parents and students by insisting the managements to follow the regulations in word and spirit. There is no point in getting doctors who are a real risk to the public at large.

Great set of articles. Enjoyed the Amazon piece and the Kauvery piece in particular. Thanks

In a more organized retail market like the US, is it fair to say that Amazon's benefits in terms of providing options to the small retailer is much lower than it is in India, where anything that helps small players improve reach makes a material difference? Is it possible that, in India, Amazon benefits both consumers and small retailers, while in the US Amazon benefits customers for sure, but (on balance) perhaps not small retailers? Are there any useful studies on this?

1. The water allocation scheme looks out of the box. Was this idea ever pitched to the central/state governments? Or to some MP/MLA? How has that reaction been?

2. Does central-government have no control over NMC?
