The "Defence Against the Dark Arts in the Information Age" piece was a new and positive perspective. It was so refreshing that the post didn't turn into a rant against everybody's favourite whipping boy - social media.

Competitive welfarism is the order of the day. The only way opposition parties are planning to come to power is by offering more welfare than the government in power. Welfarism is major talking point even in developed countries. It is said that Tories lost power in recent elections in the UK due to their failure in handling NHS. Considering that there is no way we can escape these welfare schemes, is there a best mix between welfare and growth?

true that. Welfare state expansion is an empirical reality over the last century (Wagner's Rule). I guess we have to fight the good fight in doing welfarism that is more distortionary. For example, vouchers not government-run schools, cash-transfers not government procurement.
