1 ) The long term impact on the economy or the scarring effect is overestimated and will be minimal in case everyone is vaccinated by mid 2021 .I have no data to back up such a statement however simple inferences from reading over last 100 years of financial history predicates our ability forget and move on is very high .
2) In Indian context migration has already started happening and will only grow from here on even without any social support . Cities are going become mega cities . This is a temporary blip .
Regarding unlock 4.0: Someone ought to convince the govt against implementing aggressive rollbacks .. the daily case count is yet to peak..Was happy to see what looked like an inflection till the cases started oscillating wildly.. someone ought to build a strong scientific movement to discredit the government and swing public opinion.. over to you 😀
#62 Excellent overview of myth making among nations set against the theoretical backdrop from Anderson! I understand the need for countries to reimagine their identity and revisit their history and rewrite a shared understanding to make citizens feel proud and inspired for the future. This would usually happen any time a country went through a long, suppressed phase to become 'free'. What explains the Indian experiment? Sure, there is a political agenda for a party that has finally come to power after its own 'suppression'. But if one extends the logic, how many times would you keep 'inventing' myths if political ideologies continued to change, say, ever decade or so? What are its implications for the populace?
Top quality content! Thank you. I am curious whether you are doing this for free? If yes, why? If not, who is paying for this? Are these course materials for Takshashila foundation? Do some newspapers/magazine pay for it?
Thanks, Sambaran. Glad that you liked it. No one is paying us for this. We are doing it for free at this time. Why? Because we like reading comments like yours :)
Hmm... So you are creating wealth (policy awareness among people) but not monetizing it for yourself. Thanks a lot once again.
On a slightly different note, I am intrigued by the failure of reasonably-priced-quality-healthcare. This malaise afflicts India, the UK and the US. Recently I had an epiphany while listening to a Puja-Mehra-Ajay-Shah podcast on the topic. Do you (or Pranay) have any discussion/blog/article on the topic of healthcare in India?
I would say the three countries are Singapore, South Korea and Japan. Maybe Z is South Korea? Recently I was reading the article about South Korea's economy and was astonished to find that it grew for more than 3 decades over an average GDP growth rate of 8%!
This is just a brilliant summary! Thanks!
Such a great summary of Mandeville and such a superb overview of how he influenced thought among succeeding thinkers! Loved it
Excellent article guys . My view on the same
