To response to the excellent article written on the repeal of farm laws , i would like to highlight as per my countless discussion with urban farm produce sellers , the key reason -fundamental reason behind such a resistance i.e fear of unemployment . As u have pointed out , there are 1.4 billion people dependent on agriculture for there livelihood . To give u a context , there are 20 lac households in a urban city of Gurgaon . Every household consumes at-least vegetables and grain worth Rs 20 per day .Which would translate into vegetables worth atelast 4 Cr distributed every day . Now imagine if we allow the corporates to procure them and sell & close the APMC mandis . How many of the vegetable and fruit sellers hawking there wares on the roads daily would be rendered unemployed . How many small arthis who make the supply chain from the farm fields to the dining table would have no work. And what if there is monopoly of price exercised by the big corporate once they buy majority of the produce . Who will rein them in . These are some of the basic questions which need to be addressed by the Govt
